Filmbibliographical Information

The intention of this filmbibliographical information is to give scientific interest in film a helping hand. Especially I try to include as many recent publications as possible (although there will be some greater gaps while trying to catch up).

Another criterion is length: There will be no pages, which have to be scrolled to reach the newest publications at the end. This means that 1. I will work with smaller, very specific terms, so a hierarchy will be developed, depending on the amount and frequency of important and new publications, and that 2. older entries may be thrown out – I don´t claim to offer a complete survey of all the classics related to a certain term. In this case I refer to literary references which you can find in the recommended recent publications as well as in relevant bibliographies (M.Hagener/ M.Töteberg (Eds.): Film – An International Bibliography. Stuttgart & Weimar 2002).

The content of this database is directed by a lot of accidents; the constant inclusion of new publications should work against these. I will include not only books, but also articles from film/media magazines as well as anthologies. A list of the magazines which have been taken into account extensively, can be found on the Journals-Page; others will follow.

The most useful access to the various terms will be in using the alphabetical index. Additionally, there is a hierarchical access to the information through a few main subjects, or the list of Persons.

I try to develop this database and their terms in the sense they are used in the English- and German-speaking research, possibly on a varied basis and without prefering a single way of thought. Anyway, there will be a system, even without a classification-theory, which emerges out of thinking about new entries. However, I am aware that not everyone´s expectations will be satisfied. The Links should help to yield contexts and ask new questions. I admit, that there are (partly inevitable) contradictions. Definitely, the database´s character will and should change – in a yet unknown direction.
